This park was named in honor of the late football star Brian Piccolo,*who grew up in Broward County. Sports activities are the focus of this 180-acre park, which opened in 1989. The following is a list of available facilities at Brian Piccolo Park:

Athletic Fields
Four lighted softball fields, four lighted multipurpose fields (two Little League), three lighted soccer/football fields, and one unlighted practice field. All fields are available by reservation and fee. Adult softball and flag football leagues are offered year round. Questions, call Joe Kreps at 954-437-2600, ext. 230 or e-mail jkreps@broward.org.

Softball League Rules

Brian Piccolo Park will be accepting registrations for the Adult Spring Softball season for returning teams Dec. 22 through Jan. 9. New team registrations will begin on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 8:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis, until all spots are filled. Men’s Divisions C, D, & E play Sunday mornings at a cost of $530 per team and Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings at a cost is $500. Coed plays Thursday or Friday evenings. The season consists of 10 weeks and the top four teams in each division play a single elimination tournament the 11^th week. Questions, call Joe Kreps at 954-437-2600 ext. 230.

Basketball -- Two lighted courts

Biking/Jogging Paths -- A picnic/softball complex loop (1 ¼ miles); a soccer complex loop (1 mile); and a gatehouse/lake/Palm Avenue loop (2 miles).

Cricket -- Two fields available by reservation and fee.

Fishing -- Permitted during daylight hours. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission laws are enforced. Licenses required (ages 16 and up). Catch and release encouraged.

Horseshoes -- Four courts.

Meeting Room -- Available for rental. Capacity: 50 persons (classroom setup; 825 square feet)

Shelter -- Large shelter (seating capacity 61-90 persons) available by reservation and fee.

Picnic Areas -- Tables and grills available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Play Areas -- Located in picnic area and on the west side of the park.

Road Course -- 500-meter and 800-meter courses for cyclists, runners, and walkers.

Tennis/Racquetball --12 lighted clay tennis courts, six lighted four-wall racquetball courts, and a pro shop. Round-robin, league play and lessons are available. For fees, membership, and program information, call the center at 954-437-2661.

Skate Park -- 35,000 square feet of wooden ramps and courses for skateboarding, in-line skating, and BMX biking (Monday and Tuesday evenings). Memberships available. Call 954-437-2626.

Snacks -- A concession stand is located near the baseball fields, another concession stand is located near the softball fields, and the Snack Attack is located at the Velodrome/Skate Park. Concession hours vary with scheduled programs and events.

Velodrome -- A 333.3-meter cycling track and a 200-meter banked track for in-line skating. Bike rentals available. Programs and classes for cycling and in-lin Brian Piccolo

About Brian Piccolo...Piccolo graduated in 1961 from Fort Lauderdale's Central Catholic High School (now known as St. Thomas Aquinas High), where he lettered in baseball, basketball, track, and football. He attended college at Wake Forest University and went on to play halfback for the Chicago Bears football team for five seasons. He died from cancer at age 26. His story inspired the 1970 movie Brian's Song, which starred James Caan as Piccolo and Billy Dee Williams as his real-life friend Gayle Sayers.
