A Weekend To Remember
Memorial Day weekend promises to be a memorable one at Central Broward Regional Park, when the new facility hosts the MAQ T20 International Cricket Tournament ’08. The event, for all ages, starts at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 23 with a welcome reception and opening ceremony. Then, at 4:30 p.m., Game I pits Pakistan against World XI, followed by Game 2, India vs. West Indies, at 8 p.m. Saturday’s Game 3, featuring World XI vs. West Indies, begins at 11 a.m., and Game 4, with India going up against Pakistan, starts at 3 p.m.

The day ends with a “Cricket Nights to Remember” concert at 7 p.m., with Bob Marley’s son Ky-mani, Allison Hinds, Marcia Griffiths, the Florida Melody Makers Band, and the Code Red Band among the Caribbean-flavored acts. Game 5, between the third- and fourth-place teams, will commence at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The final match, between the first- and second-place teams, gets under way at 3 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. awards ceremony and another evening concert at 7 p.m.

The format for the games will be 20/20 cricket, a short, dynamic version of the popular sport that limits play length to approximately that of an average baseball game.

Activities include hands-on science and nature projects and activities; healthy lifestyles, archery, canoeing, and arts and crafts; and fishing, campfires, team sports, and swimming.

Fees are $200 for campers ages 8 to 12, $110 for counselors in training ages 13 and 14 and counselors ages 15 to 18. Cost includes round-trip transportation, meals and snacks, and a T-shirt.
