Easterlin Park

Easterlin, an approxiately 47-acre Designated Urban Wilderness Area, is a magnificent example of cypress and mixed cypress forest. Cypress trees 250 years old and 100 feet tall are common in the park. Relatively undisturbed buffer areas of thick wild coffee, ferns, dahoon holly, cabbage palm, oak, and red maple shield the park from the outside world. This little oasis of nature offers a shaded playground, a picnic shelter (reservation suggested), nature trails, horseshoes, volleyball, an 18-hole disk golf course, and a scenic lake. A soda machine and ice are available at the park office and a sanitary dump station is located at the campground exit for your convenience.

Campground
Easterlin campground has 45 paved RV sites with water, sewer, and electricity (20, 30, and 50 amps). There are no phone or cable hookups. Seven of these sites are pull-through sites. Of our 10 tent sites six have water and electrical hookups. Camping is permitted on designated sites only and one camping unit is allowed on each site. Showers and a dump station are available. A little history...Easterlin was Broward County's first inland regional park and was originally acquired in 1944, when it was known as Cypress Park because of the cypress trees that cover much of the area. The park opened to the public in 1965 and was later named after John D. Easterlin. He was a County Commissioner who was characterized as independent and outspoken. A newspaper article (Miami Herald, September 7, 1972) says one of his last battles as a commissioner was against attempts by some Republicans to fire large numbers of Democrats working in the courthouse. Easterlin died in 1968. Photo courtesy of the Broward County Historical Commission.
