Registration Now Available For South Florida Senior Games
Registration is now being accepted for the 19th Annual South Florida Senior Games, which will be held January 28 through February 10. The games, known as the “Olympiad for people 50 years of age and over,” include more than 50 athletic and nonathletic competitions, ranging from tennis, golf, track and field, swimming, and bowling to fine arts. Events are held at venues throughout the Broward County area.
Participants need to be 50 years of age or over by December 31, 2009. Gold, silver, and bronze Olympic-style medals will be awarded to the winners of each competition. Registration forms must include applicable fees. Registration is $15 per person and includes the first competition, a goodie bag, and one ticket to the Closing Ceremony. Junior Bass Trail Fishing Tournament at Tradewinds Park
This program is specifically designed for ages 12 -17. All participants must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. The adult will not be permitted to fish. All participants must fish from a boat. Tournament rules are similar to those used in professional bass tournaments. Trophies are awarded at each monthly tournament for First through Third place and Big Bass catch. Tournament point totals are compiled over the four months of competition. The angler with the most points at the end of the competition will be named Junior Angler of the Year and will be awarded a special prize package. Cost of the program is $65 for each participant and covers all four torunaments. There is no fee for the adult in the boat.

Steam Train Rides and Farm Tours Return to Tradewinds Park
Steam Train Rides are offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the third complete weekend of each month. Rides are available to children and adults alike, and the cost is $1 per ride.
Tradewinds Educational Farm was developed to reflect the history of farm activities in Broward County and to educate the public about the various types of farm animals native to the area. The Tradewinds Educational Farm is home to numerous farm animals including a cow, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens. Other animals that can be seen at Tradewinds Park are horses, ponies, and peacocks. The Educational Farm Tour fee is $6 per person. Awesome Trucks Day at T.Y. Park
This event starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. A wide variety of types and sizes of trucks and heavy-duty equipment will be on display and for the first time - a genuine Swamp Buggy. Children will be allowed to touch, climb on, and sit in the driver's seats of bulldozers, dump trucks, cranes, fire trucks, school buses, front-end loaders, backhoes, and bucket trucks. Awesome Trucks Day is always a great day for photos and memories.
