WALK THROUGH TIME

Friday, August 8, 1 to 3 p.m.

For ages 6 to 12. Fee: $6/person.

Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center

From saber-tooth cats to the Seminole Wars, learn about the exciting history of Long Key. Make your own "fossil," then go on a fossil hunt to look for the real thing. Meet at the Long Key Nature Center lobby. Preregistration is required by Thursday, August 7. For further information, call the natural area at 954-327-8797.

is an award-winning three-month calendar of events offered by the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division's naturalists. The activities listed below offer highlights of what’s going on this month at a park near you. Most activities require fees; some also require preregistration. Call or visit the individual park office as indicated for further information.

NATURE TOTS: SKY

Tuesday, August 12, 10 to 11 a.m.

Ages 2 to 4 accompanied by an adult. Fee: $3/child.

Fern Forest Nature Center

Kids and their parents can join a Broward County Parks naturalist and learn about the sky through stories, songs, arts and crafts, and more. Preregistration is required. This event will also be offered at Anne Kolb Nature Center on August 5, Secret Woods Nature Center on August 19, and Long Key Natural Area on August 26. For further information, call Long Key Natural Area at 954-970-0150 or the nature center of your choice. This park is accessible from Broward County Transit routes #31 and #42.

NATURESCAPE SEMINAR

Thursday, August 14, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For all ages. Free.

Secret Woods Nature Center

Dig in to discover how to design beautiful environmentally friendly landscapes that will save time, money, protect our natural resources, and provide wildlife habitat. For more information, call the nature center at 954-791-1030. This park is accessible from Broward County Transit route #6.

ANIMALS OF THE SHALLOW WATERS

Saturday, August 16, 10 to 11 a.m.

For all ages. Fee: $1/person Exhibit Hall admittance.

Anne Kolb Nature Center

An up-close examination of the animals of the EcoRoom shallow-water tank. For more information, call the nature center at 954-926-2480. This park is accessible from Broward County Transit route #12.

INTRACOASTAL HISTORY TOUR

Saturday, August 30, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For all ages. Fee: $6/person.

Deerfield Island Natural Area

Naturalist-led boat and walking tour will cover the natural, physical, and economic resources of the island and its surrounding waters. Reservations are required. Private tours are also available for groups of eight by advance arrangement. For more information, call the park at 954-360-1320. This park is accessible from Broward County Transit routes #50 and #92.
