Help Your Tot Discover Nature
- Nature Tots program at three Broward County facilities -
WHAT: Last year South Florida Parenting magazine named the Nature Tots program at Secret Woods Nature Center the Best Outdoor Enrichment Program for Little Ones. But it’s no secret that Nature Tots has been teaching tykes to appreciate the great outdoors for years. The program was the brainchild of a park naturalist in 2003 and over the years has expanded to include additional sites.
The one-hour programs, for ages 2 to 4 accompanied by an adult, focus on a different theme each month, with each site’s naturalist free to embellish on it according to his/her style. A typical program might start with stories, songs, or arts and crafts and end with a short nature walk.
The theme for November is “Lizards,” with programs on November 13 at Fern Forest Nature Center in Coconut Creek, November 20 at Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach, and November 27 at Long Key Nature Center in Davie.
Programs run from 10 to 11 a.m. The fee is $3 per child, and preregistration is required. The final 2008 topic is “Birds” (December). Programs are on the second Thursday at Fern Forest, third Thursday at Secret Woods, and fourth Thursday at Long Key.
