Master Gardeners To Give Landscaping Advice
at Broward Farm Bureau Day, Saturday, November 8
Our very own Florida Master Gardeners of Broward County, who last year served a total of more than 46,000 clients in Broward County while recording nearly 12,500 volunteer hours, will be at it again this Saturday, November 8 at Broward Farm Bureau Day. The event will take place at the Pompano Citi Centre, located at 1955 N. Federal Hwy., Pompano Beach, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This free, family-friendly event will have vendors, exhibitors, plant sales, and a green produce market. There will be food competitions for best hors d’oeuvres and appetizers, entrées, side dishes, desserts, jams, jellies, sauces and condiments, and breads and muffins. The Florida Master Gardeners of Broward County will be providing Florida Friendly® landscaping lectures, educational brochures, and advice on a wide variety of gardening issues. The event will be an economical way for you to spend a Saturday with your special someone.
Through the Broward County Extension Education Section, Parks and Recreation Division, and the University of Florida-Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences, Master Gardeners undergo 102 hours of intensive training, including lectures, labs, and field trips. Students also receive course handouts, books, identification decks, and other diagnostic tools. The purpose of Master Gardener training is to provide qualified volunteers to assist county residents in resolving their landscaping, integrated pest management, and water and soil conservation questions. There are currently more than 150 Master Gardeners from 28 Broward municipalities, assisted by local Master Gardener coordinators who coordinate volunteer events and provide educational programs in each municipality.
